This Italian villa grabbed our attention for its front-row location on the Amalfi coast. You can enjoy spectacular sea views from the garden, balconies, and terraces, and you also have direct access to a private beach. Your host can provide breakfast to begin the day at a leisurely pace, and if you’re travelling with children, babysitter recommendations are available. There are lots of stairs to climb here, including a spiral staircase in the home, steep steps in the terraced garden, and steps to the private beach, so it won’t suit everyone. Location-wise, you’re in the pretty village of Conca dei Marini with many picturesque coastal towns, including popular Amalfi, within easy driving distance.

Stay in an authentic Puglian trullo at this home in the Castellana Grotte countryside. Spanning a main house with iconic cone-shaped roofs, a modern addition filled with light, and a traditional stone-built tower, this villa has a lot of charm. Most of your relaxing will take place in the garden – there's a private pool with an added hydromassage, and plenty of sun-kissed spots to enjoy a glass of wine. The bedrooms are spread across the different buildings, though the one with single beds is in an alcove and lacks a door. Located just a short walk from the centre of Florence, this Santa Maria Novella ticks all the important boxes for us, making it a functional base for city exploring. The fully equipped kitchen and large dining table let you enjoy a hearty breakfast before you head into town, and we like that the home gets plenty of natural light – always a nice way to start the day. When you want to explore, you'll find Strozzi Palace close by, as well as Florence Santa Maria Novella station, connecting you to the rest of Tuscany and beyond.

Just a five-minute walk from the nearest ski lift, this studio apartment is more than handy for skiers and snowboarders. But as the sun beats down in the heat of July, it’s equally wonderful for picturesque bike rides (courtesy of your host). Either way, you’ll be in need of relaxation afterwards – that’s where the sauna comes in.

Beyond the wooden porch and pine interiors of this modern building, the luxe spa sits on its own floor. With beanbags and a chill-out area next to the glass door to the sauna, you’ve got plenty of space to kick back if it gets too hot.

One of our favourite things about this home is that it's close to public transport – giving you the chance to dive deeper into Sicily. This cozy apartment is perfect for a romantic getaway to Italy, and this central location means you can treat yourself to authentic wines and delicious Italian cuisine for date night. Visit gorgeous art museums or head to the shopping district to find gifts for your loved ones back home.

Evenings can be spent snuggled up in front of the TV, with the moonlight pouring in through the balcony door. Notice the streets below become quieter as the day draws to a close, and drift away ready for another day of adventuring.

Found in the small town of Cisano sul Neva, this home is ideal for those months when the temperature starts to rise. The interior feels cooling thanks to the tiling underfoot and the large doorways that let a breeze circulate inside when opened. There's also plenty of shade to be found even when the sun's at its highest — a covered terrace will play host to many a languorous lunch, while the flourishing garden offers plenty of secluded spots for an afternoon nap. That being said, there are enough perks inside the four walls if you're coming during the autumn and winter. An upright piano in the living room will keep musical guests occupied, while the hydro-massage bath requires no such talent to enjoy — just sit back and let the bubbles do their work. The local town and its pretty churches take fifteen minutes to reach on foot, while the seaside town of Albenga can be reached in the same amount of time in the car.

An open space in a sixteenth-century building, in the hilly outskirts of Florence that, at time at times, has been both a stables and a nightclub, Thermae is one of the most spectacular places we’ve seen in Italy. Its restoration has been a labour of love for the host, Giovanni, and the way that he’s incorporated technology into the original structure is simply impressive. There’s too much to describe here, but know that everything's been taken care of. And if we did have to choose one thing that stood out, it might have to be the pool, hidden away in the vaults, and only accessible through a trapdoor.

Discover the Sicilian island of Pantelleria from this gorgeous villa. It has a contemporary feel with elements of a dammuso, a typical Pantelleria home, and is surrounded by two acres of fragrant Mediterranean garden. We think this home is particularly suited to families – furry friends are welcome, and your host can provide a range of equipment for little ones, including a baby bath and cot. The pool offers breathtaking sunset views, but for sunbathing by the sea Sataria Beach is just a short drive away.

Lazio might not get the plaudits of Tuscany or Umbria, but it's still a beautiful region of Italy – just look at the hilltop views from this home's excellent outdoor space, which offers both a dining terrace and swimming pool to keep visitors happy during the warmer months. The home itself used to be a stable and while there's none of the period charm you often find with restored buildings, we think that it's a solid – if slightly unremarkable – place to rest your head for a week or two. 

Chestnut Mare

There are a lot of things we like about this lodge in the Alpine village of Cortina d'Amprezzo, but we'd be lying if we didn't single out the rather lovely view from the balcony as our standout highlight – from this spot, it's possible to gaze out over the locale's rooftops and dramatically beautiful mountains beyond.

Back inside, the interior design is as rustic as you might imagine, with an abundance of wood in everything from the walls and floors to the furnishings and finishes. A few pieces of artwork and natural decorative items lend a little character, while the horseshoe-shaped kitchen has enough space for cooking up hearty dinners when you're fresh off the slopes.

Ah yes, skiing – there's plenty of opportunity for winter sports here, with lifts up to the slopes lying within walking distance. Even closer, there are restaurants, shops and a museum within the town to explore.

Pass Me My Paintbrush

Housed in a historic building, this apartment is situated in the Riviere Esterne neighbourhood of Padua. While you'll need to take the stairs up to the home's entrance, it has two small balconies – one overlooking the district’s internal canal and another over the Riviera Paleocapa. If you need to catch up on work, there’s a study area here too, but we bet you’d prefer to explore this cultural city. Known for its frescoes such as those in the Scrovegni Chapel, there’s plenty to see. The iconic Specola is a five-minute walk, while an eight-minute stroll will take you to Piazza Duomo and the centre of this university town is ten minutes on foot. 


A Little Dream of the Valley

Views of Northern Italy's peaceful Lake Maggiore don't come much better than this. It's a scene best admired from the private balcony of this smart townhouse perched on the hillsides overlooking the Borromeo's islands. Inside, the newly refurbished, pared-back interiors are perfect for a fuss-free stay for two, and the pretty suntrap garden to soak up the Italian sunshine is a nice touch. You'll need a car here as it's pretty remote with no amenities to walk to – but don't let that put you off. Stresa's regal seafront promenade and cobbled streets bustling with trattorias are just a five-minute drive away.

Contemporary living meets Sicilian charm in this traditional home. Located in the historic area of Ortigia, you'll be surrounded by ancient streets contrasting this stylishly modern apartment. Decorated with warm tones reminiscent of the colours of the desert, this is an ideal home for a romantic getaway with your loved one. Start your day by flinging open the window shutters in the bedroom and enjoying cornettis and fresh orange juice in bed, and end the day by indulging in a glass of moscato wine on the romantic outdoor balcony area. This home is made by love for those who are in love.

The Ortigia area you'll be located in is just as romantic to explore considering it is steeped in history as part of Syracuse. Wander the streets on your doorstep and discover picturesque squares to while away time in, or take a short walk down to Cala Rossa beach to marvel at stunning azure waters. A picnic here will be an afternoon well spent. Make sure to sample the local granitas during your stay here – they're something special.

In the sun-soaked village of Positano, this studio apartment is a peaceful idyll within walking distance of the lively shores of Positano Beach. Inside, it’s all crisp white and cobalt blue. Unwind on the loveseat with a cappuccino, basking in a salty breeze that drifts through the Juliet balcony doors. Put together a Caprese salad at the kitchenette then tuck in at the dining table. When you’re ready to explore, slather on your sunscreen and take a gentle stroll through the pastel-hued streets.

This apartment can be found in the popular seaside resort of Letojanni in Sicily. It’s just a few kilometres from Taormina, so there’s plenty to see and do. We recommend visiting Isola Bella in particular. The apartment looks out over the sea and has a small terrace where you can enjoy the sunshine. Even when you’re inside, the sea views are the focal point thanks to huge windows. The decor inside is chic with a playful side, with charming trinkets dotted around. We think this home is perfect for a couple, a small family, or a trio of friends.

From here, you can admire the views and then take the short stroll down to the beach where you’ll also find a small selection of restaurants. It’s also worth noting there’s no lift access here and that while some of the furniture is a little dated, the apartment has been recently renovated. However, we think most of your time will be spent outdoors – taking advantage of this great location.
